Cupping & Massage at The Wild Fox:
I love cupping & Massage – it’s a perfect way to relax into a treatment. Cupping is an important treatment within Chinese Medicine for healing and to release stagnation. It’s a practice that includes applying cups (I use glass cups) – on the skin to create suction along meridians – it’s usually done on the back but can be used on any part of the body. Cupping is understood to increase blood flow to the area to promote healing.
With the cups in place, the cups are either left in place for approximately 10 – 15 minutes or the cups are gently moved across the skin – this is known as sliding cups. Sliding feels a lot like massage. Most people enjoy cups as it relieves tension – it can be a great way to start a treatment, even if there isn’t a lot of tightness.
Usually, cupping & massage is combined with acupuncture, but it can be a stand-alone treatment. The benefits of cupping include increasing blood flow, relaxing muscles, and calming the nervous system. I offer treatments that involve cupping & massage as a stand alone treatment but it depends on what condition you are presenting with.
It’s common to have cup ‘marks’ left where the treatment took place. These round circles may be pink, red, or purple – and look a bit like a bruise but they don’t cause any discomfort. This is normal and usually fades within a few days. The darker the circles, the more stagnation there was at the treatment sites.
Some conditions that benefit from cupping & massage:
- Common cold
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Digestive disorders
