Grief and Loss Ceremony

This offering arose from the stillbirth of my first daughter Honey, it is also deepened by years of sitting with women in clinic and in circle, learning how to be with what is arising, with my heart open, fully present.

This is a ceremonial offering, a 2.5 hour session, where there is space for telling your story, sharing the story of your baby, your birth, your unfolding, your love and grief, for speaking what feels to be spoken, and for deep listening. I hold each story in my heart with reverence and a deep trust in life.

This space is also where I tend to your dear wise body with care. Through ceremony and the lens of traditions of Chinese Medicine, I give massage and acupuncture, and moxa.

Practically, this means we support the wisdom of the body;

  • We rebuild Blood and Jing where there has been depletion.

  • We warm and nourish the womb and the centre.

  • We calm the Heart, and reestablish it’s connection to the Kidneys

  • We honour the Lungs, the organ of grief, tending the breath, the Lungs teach us that grief and love move together.

I’m not here as a therapist, grief showed me that something profound happens in the space of allowing what is and that is what I offer. Grief changes us and grieving is not meant to be done alone.

When we focus on “healing,” we can unintentionally place ourselves as authority over a territory that is not ours. Even with the best intentions, the attention can subtly shift away from the woman and toward the one who is guiding, teaching, or interpreting what is happening.

When someone approaches grief as something that needs to be resolved or healed, sovereignty can quietly be overridden. The body begins orienting outward, toward approval, progress, or improvement, instead of inward toward its own wisdom. These sessions are, in many ways, what I couldn’t find.

When Honey died, my body needed tending to along side of my heart, my whole body ached, my heart was broken. I needed to be held in the soft knowing that I was going to be okay and at the same time, I needed space to feel the depth of grief, the sadness, the devastation. I didn’t need someone to move me through it, I needed someone who could sit beside it. This is the beauty of Chinese Medicine, looking beyond the division of right and wrong, and find the sacredness in the whole. Honey’s death brought me to my knees, the pain of losing her broke my heart, and in the same breath filled every part of my being with love.
